Woo! Second vendor commentary already!
Today I went by Midwest to show them my portfolio, and bribe them with cake to get on their referral list. Shameless, huh? LOL.Anyway, that brief little visit was a great reminder about how awesome these guys are, and I figured I should write a commentary on them. After all, they were the company that DJed my own wedding way back when, and they rocked it pretty hard.
I think I mentioned in my last vendor blog – I’m not getting bribed or bargained into writing these commentaries, I’m just going to feature really interesting or cool businesses.Anyway.. can’t really describe in words how great our DJ (Jesse) was at our wedding. Especially when contrasted with how horrible our photographer was, the DJ really *made* the reception. Music has always been important to me. I was a (dry) club kid before I was even legal to get into clubs, and hey – “Celebration Generation” as a business name actually pays homage to one of my favorite DJs from back then. Choosing our DJ was one of the more important decisions going into our wedding. Hubby and I argued more about our music list than anything (I’m sorry, I will NEVER agree that Nine Inch Nail’s “Closer” is at all appropriate for a wedding!), and I talked to more DJ companies than any other vendor.
It took 2 wedding shows of questioning every DJ in attendance before we decided on Midwest. They seemed like a perfect fit. Some of them had experience DJing raves in Chicago! Woo! Plus, they all just seemed really cool and easy to get along with – and they were. Dealing with them was very simple and stress free. Over the course of a few calls with Jesse, we hashed out our basic music requests, which he sounded excited about – apparently, he even switched his regular Friday gig with someone else, so he could do our Sunday wedding.
We did something a little different with our reception – we bought a few boxes of glow sticks for the kids. Well, for me too – I’ve always thought that glow sticks at a wedding would be cool. Yes, I’m a little weird sometimes. It worked well – the kids LOVED them, even the adults got into the action – I still remember the glow stick – lit conga line that one guys started. Fun times.
Aaaanyway. We presented Jesse and Midwest with some odd requests, and they ran with it. I got to hear “Higher State of Consciousness” at my wedding, and Jesse was excited to do it!
Not sure what else I can actually write about a DJ company! I’ve been to my share of weddings where the DJ and/or MC was totally lame.. These guys were pretty much the total opposite of that. I’m going to have to come up with an excuse to have a party, just to hire them again.
