I confess. I’m a nerd. I married a nerdy geek, and most of my friends are some combination of the two Lately, we’ve had a run of orders for geeky / nerdy cakes, and I LOVE it! There’s a wedding cake in December that I’m very much looking forward to doing (Super Mario!), and a World of Warcraft groom’s cake next summer that is going to be *awesome*. This weekend was the “Week of the Geek”, with not one, but THREE nerd/geek cakes! The first two cakes were a set that were ordered as a surprise “wedding” cake. Amy and Richard were married abroad, and were planning an at-home reception. The fun part is that Amy completely tricked Richard in ordering these cakes! She ordered the taster cake, he LOVED it, she told him that she wasn’t going to bother with a cake afterall, and he had NO idea that he was not only getting the Chai cake he loved, but that Amy had it designed around one of his favorite passtimes – he’s big into gaming.
The cakes she ordered were based on the game “Portal”. The main cake was designed around the “Companion Cube”, and the second cake was based on.. a cake. LOL. Apparently this particular cake is repeatedly offered as a reward throughout the game. Too cute!
The third cake this weekend is one of my favorites ever – a standing R2D2 cake! This was ordered for a very lucky 5 year old named Declan. His birthday party was a “Jedi Training Camp”! How awesome is that? Man, I wish my mom had come up with such cool ideas when I was a kid!
Love it!
