Another truly epic “Save the Date”

Check this out:

*swoon*

I love it when couples really let creativity fly when planning their wedding.

If this video Save the Date wasn’t enough, they also designed a Teaser Poster as a mailed Save the Date. Love the attention to details!

Glam Goth Wedding Cake

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

I recently had the opportunity to make my very first black wedding cake, for one of my absolute *favorite* brides of the year. Maybe ever.

I’d love to do a full blog entry on their wedding eventually – the visuals were so striking! The bride had a wonderful design vision, the venue was gorgeous… and you know I have a soft spot for brides who throw convention and “expectations” to the wind and really march to their own beat.

In the meantime, however… I’ll present you with photos of their cake! This cake was themed around their Halloween / Goth / NIN wedding through and through – it was Blood Orange Truffle flavored! (”Our deeply rich, dark chocolate cake is filled with alternating layers of blood orange chocolate truffle ganache, and blood orange buttercream.”). Not only specifically “Blood” orange – tee hee! – but that particular flavor cuts to a beautiful orange / deep dark chocolate brown. Seasonal colors!

The cake featured sugar roses in varying shades of gray, dusted with black accents. It also featured dark gray “lace” made from Sugar Veil icing – a unique product that allows a cake designer to pick up piped designs and drape it like fabric! Exciting… and meant that the entire cake was edible!

More detail photos of this cake can be seen on our Facebook site, Here

Now THAT is a hardcore wedding!

I love Twitter. It’s been really cool to get to know clients – and random strangers! – as well as come across ALL kinds of weird, random links to interesting information, posts, photos, etc. @bridetide posted this today, and I couldn’t NOT pass them along in my blog!

This couple was married while suspended from hooks! Ouch.

Damn, does that ever look painful. I love how happy they look, though! Original post can be found HERE.

Coolest wedding cake EVER.

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

I’ve been looking forward to this past weekend for a very long time – it was the weekend of the Mario cake wedding!

Cory and Tori were so much fun to work with, I love when a couple lets me run wild on a cake, and come on.. It’s Super Mario Bros! I was like a kid waiting for Christmas. Well, it was a couple days after Christmas, so.. ya. (more…)

Exciting Weekend for me – Part 1

Friday, July 18th, 2008

This weekend is a special one for me, for a few reasons: - The very first Celebration Generation client is getting married on Saturday! Like most of our clients, she booked waaaaay in advance.  So, while she’s far from being our first delivery, it’s still a cool milestone, I think!- It’s all about the sugar / gumpaste with the two wedding cakes going out this weekend! More on that in a minute.- Both cakes got delivered tonight. A Friday! That means I actually have a weekend off for once! Very excited about that. What am I gonna do? Work, of course… but more on that in tomorrows’ blog! Very excited about what I’m doing this weekend..

Insanity!

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

If you’re one of my cake buddies, you likely know how much I hate piping flowers. I say this theoretically, because I haven’t piped a frosting flower since I was about 16, and my good friend Medea got married. No wait, it was before then – I’d already gotten sick of them. I remember now – I’d made calla lilies out of sheets of beeswax to adorn the top of her cake!
Anyway, my memory issues aside.. I’m much more of a fondant jockey than a traditional cake lady. I’d rather sculpt than do embroidery, too!

So, when I met up with a cool couple that I wanted to work with.. but who wanted a cake COMPLETELY covered with piped flowers, I faced a dilemma. I ended up throwing my misgivings to the wind, and signed on with them.

Surprise Party!

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

Whew. What a party!

Last night was my friend Mandi’s birthday. This is the woman who went from hiring me – as a complete stranger – to becoming my favorite client EVER, to the person who started me off in the HUGE change of career from flowers to cakes.. to a good friend. One of the sweetest, most fun people I’ve known, and she’s like a little sister to me.

Her husband is great too, and he planned this party as a surprise for her. To be honest, I wasn’t sure he’d manage to pull it off. She’d ASKED him to plan a surprise party (kinda makes that difficult!), she lives next door to one person that was instrumental in pulling it off, and works with someone else! (more…)
