Big News .. and a little bit of fan-girling it up.

Friday, November 14th, 2008

So, a few months ago, I posted about the Butterfly Social charity event.. and raved about Wolfgang Puck’s catering company.  I’d met a couple of their representatives at an industry thing the day before, and they treated us very well at the event.  MMm. I should have had breakfast before posting this, because just thinking about it.. wow. Amazing food.  Even all these months later, I’m vividly impressed by what they catered.

Anyway, so I have a big raging corporate crush on the company.  Aside from the ridiculously good food (Seriously, words don’t properly convey the gastronomic bliss we experienced that night!), every single one of their employees that I’ve met have been awesome.  Oh, and the sky room at the Walker? Amazing.  All around, these guys are a shining example of what is RIGHT in the industry right now.

So, imagine my giddy delight when, after recently doing a cake for one of their brides, I received an email stating that they would now be referring people to me, as their preferred cake vendor. *Completely* tickled pink here!

Now, I need to clarify – This isn’t one of those situations I’ve ranted about before. Rather than being tainted by kick backs or other ugliness, this is completely merit based, on both sides. LOVE it! I am so thrilled, and consider this an honor and compliment of the highest order!

So, that’s that, my big news :) I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll have other big news to announce on Monday (or a week or two later, given my penchant for procrastination!).. but this one really made my year!

Oh, and a shameless plug – If you are looking for the most amazing venue and food for your holiday party, wedding, or whatever.. give Andrea at Wolfgang Puck a call (612-253-3407). They will take care of you and feed your guests the most delicious food out there.. all while you’re enjoying an amazing view of the city. I just wish I’d known about them when I got married!!

Social Butterfly

Busy week for blog entries, huh?

Back on Monday, I was enjoying a day off (so I thought!), and happened to catch a segment on Showcase Minnesota that caught my attention. Jim Leighton was on the show, talking about the upcoming Social Butterfly event. It was a benefit for the Children’s Cancer Research Fund.

He talked a bit about what they do for families through the Care Partners – particularly assisting families that are in town for their child’s treatment programs. I couldn’t possibly do justice by paraphrasing what he said, but it really inspired me. So.. I looked him up and emailled to offer a donation of desserts for the event – which was only a few days away! (more…)

Mpls Mag Party

Friday, April 25th, 2008

One part of running a wedding related business is something that I (usually) find fun, and that my husband hates – the industry events. I dragged him to another one last night, and he actually enjoyed it.

This was the magazine launch/rebranding of Mpls St Paul Wedding Magazine. We’ve been to a few such events in the past.. a bit of networking, some mediocre food, then looooong and boring presentations and sales pitches. Yawn. I’m a big believer in networking, and with our move to the cities next month, it’s something we really need to do more of. So, I arm twisted him into going. (more…)

What a weekend!

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Wow, where to start?

I haven’t had a day off in weeks. Getting ready for the TCBA show, then a roadtrip, then the tasting… I was looking forward to this weekend being a time-out. No such luck! (more…)

Symbiosis in the Workplace

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Like many online business owners, I get a LOT of email. Questions about ordering, RSVPs for tastings, fan mail, questions about tecnhiques from fellow cake decorators, and more.  Lately I’ve been getting a lot of email on the same two subjects. Given recent lack of inspiration for blog entries, I figured this would be a great topic for a new entry!

The two subjects?  The photography on my website, and the clear cake stands I use.   Interestingly enough, the two are related! You see, I’m not really a one person operation – my husband helps me a lot with the non-baking stuff.  He is the one who takes the professional photos of my work, and he also builds custom stands for me!

My husband is actually a professional photographer – mostly weddings, but getting more into product photography. He is the proprietor behind Happenstance Photography (www.happenstancephoto.com). (more…)

Vendor Commentary – Midwest Sound & Light

Jesse from Midwest

Woo! Second vendor commentary already!

Today I went by Midwest to show them my portfolio, and bribe them with cake to get on their referral list. Shameless, huh? LOL.Anyway, that brief little visit was a great reminder about how awesome these guys are, and I figured I should write a commentary on them. After all, they were the company that DJed my own wedding way back when, and they rocked it pretty hard.

I think I mentioned in my last vendor blog – I’m not getting bribed or bargained into writing these commentaries, I’m just going to feature really interesting or cool businesses.Anyway.. can’t really describe in words how great our DJ (Jesse) was at our wedding. Especially when contrasted with how horrible our photographer was, the DJ really *made* the reception. (more…)
